Poverty Simulation

This unique Community Action Poverty Simulation will open your eyes to the human costs of poverty. This interactive experience helps people begin to understand what it feels like to live in poverty. The power of this one-of-a-kind learning experience is that it creates an insight into the state of chronic crisis that consumes so many working poor families.

In this Simulation, participants experience one month of poverty compressed into the real time of the simulation. As participants in this simulation you will take on the role of a family member facing a variety of challenging, but typical circumstances from homelessness, job loss and poverty with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress. It will move you to think about the harsh realities of poverty and to talk about how your community can address this problem. Most importantly, it moves people to make a difference. The power of the simulation is further enhanced by a compelling debriefing where participants share the insights gained into the unfamiliar world of living in poverty.
